Baker & Kelly

Some you may have arrived at this site from searching for recordings made by Danny Baker & Danny Kelly. The pair started on the BBC Radio 5′s “6-0-6″ in the early 1990s, before going on to join Talk Radio in 1997. You can find many of their shows to download here. They returned briefly to the BBC in 2002, and finally in 2007 with a series of podcasts, which came to an abrupt halt after a dispute with the distributing company, Wippit. We started putting up complete episodes of their Talk Radio show on here from 1998, and then moved on to the 2002 show.

Sadly, however, the site that was hosting them toppled over a couple of months ago, but I have had a couple of emails from people requesting that they be re-uploaded and the end of the season seems like as good a place as any to start putting them back up but, rather than putting them up a little at a time. They are divided into three (very large folders) – the Talk Radio shows, the 2002 shows and the podcasts. Because of the size of these files, I have had to upload them as .rar files on Rapidshare, but instructions on how to get to them are available below. If you have any queries, use the email address given on the “Contact” page.

Download Instructions

1. The easiest way to do this is to have a Rapidshare premium account, which costs €6.99 for a month, and can be purchased from here. If you don’t have one and really object to paying for one, you can download them anyway, but it will be slightly more convoluted. For the record, I’m not on commission from them!

2. Download all of the .rar files listed below. If you have a Rapidshare premium account, just right-click on the link and “Save As”. If you don’t have a Rapidshare premium account, you will have to wait between downloads but, if you have a wireless router, you can bypass this by switching your router off and back on again. You need to download all of the files in order to be able to access them – my personal preference is to save them to my Desktop but, hey, I’m not the boss of you.

3. Once you have all of the files, you need to “extract” them in order to be able to listen to them. To do this, you will need a piece of software called WinRAR (you can also use Winzip, but these instructions will be about WinRAR). WinRAR is a free download, and can be downloaded from here. Install it on your computer (if you haven’t already got it), and you’re ready to extract the folders.

4. Right-click on any of the .rar files in the archive and click on “Extract Here”. The folder and the files therein will then be extracted into the same folder into which you downloaded the original folders. After you have done this, you can delete the original .rar files. All of the extracted files are MP3 files, and you should be able to play them on any media player, MP3 or Ipod.

These instructions are for Windows users only. If you have a Mac you can still download them, but I would suggest following these intructions instead. If you’re using Linux, I would guess that you probably already know how to do this sort of thing, but further instructions are available here. If you have any problems with any of the above feel free to contact me and ask for advice, but remember that I am not – as some of you may already have noticed – an IT professional.

I’ve checked the uploads and there are no viruses or anything on them. None of the .rar files are corrupted in any way, so you should have no problems downloading them. If you have any problems with downloading them, this site obviously accepts no responsibility for any subsequent problems that you may have with them. As with anything that you download from the internet, always run these through a virus scanner before doing anything else with them, for your own piece of mind.

The Baker & Kelly Podcasts - The Baker & Kelly Podcasts ran from the start of September until the end of November, before a dispute over payment brought them to an unexpectedly sudden halt. There were twelve of them altogether, and the plan was to have a website to run alongside it. There are three files to download, and the total combined size of these files is 280mb.

Baker & Kelly – The 2002 Comeback – After getting the sack from Talk Radio, Danny Baker & Danny Kelly came back briefly on BBC Radio 5 Live in 2002. There are nine episodes available in this folder, along with a compilation of the original “best bits” from the original early 1990s “6-0-6″ show. There are six files to download, and the total size of the folder is around 580mb.

Baker & Kelly – The 1998/99 Talk Radio Shows – Following their sacking from the BBC, Baker & Kelly went on to the commercial station, Talk Radio, in 1997. These ran until the start of 1999, when they were sacked from Talk Radio for “not talking about the football enough”. There are eleven files to be downloaded if you want this folder, which contains fifty-four of their shows from this time (including their trip to the 1998 World Cup). Most of the shows are around ninety minutes long, though some of them are described as “in progress”, so the recording started after the programme started. The total size of this folders is a shade over 1gb, so make sure you have plenty of space before you start.
